I’m no expert but it’s not a conscient thing. It occurs mostly when females are below or close to the age of ten and feel a subconscient attraction to their fathers and believe their mothers have “castrated” them, as they want to take their mother’s role next to the father. Forgive my bad English.

The truth is nothing of the kind. Because men are stronger than women, men put women on pedestals. They tout them as superior, softer, kinder, more compasionate. They try to protect them. They try to win women’s approval. They are something worth dying for. Women and children first. In life and death situations, even the most important men’s lives are seen as secondary to the least important women’s. Women are only too willing to oblige.

While I’m sure there are some women to whom the Electra complex applies, I agree that it isn’t normal. Freud was an interesting psychologist, but he was also wrong about nearly everything. Try reading Freud’s “The Interpretation of Dreams” (hat=genitals?).
