Keith:: Interesting post, no suprises on what you've said, enjoy your female free working environment.

Exsailor:: Bud we hear you too, even on his possible deathbed all a man really needs is a nice nurse to give him a blow job, but trust me, if he wants to live tell her to wait till a male doctor has saved him first. Nurses, at least in britain are overtrained bed makers and medicine dispensers, evidenced by my four week stay last year.

Exsailor:: I'm not sure talking would qualify as medical treatment but I guess it must help but much more likely a certain amount of your thought patterns still eminate at your penis.

Linda:: So you're being hit by some of the shit of generalization. Now you know how men feel and have been feeling for decades when females do it. As for your vocation, good job.

As a Paramedic, I have a plethora of experience dealing with people on a day to day basis. I started my career on the streets as an EMT Basic, woking subordinate on occassion to the occassional female paramedic. The decent female paramedics that I did and have noticed in my tenure didn't think like most women. They tended to think more like a man, meaning, with a little common sense.
Now, does that mean that they all had that same sense, and/or that the ones that exhibited any sense at all had it all the time? Definitely not.
Not long after I had started as an EMT Basic, I tested for and attained my Paramedic certifiction. It's there that I learned so much more about the female mind (or lack thereof). I completely agree with the man that posted Dick's inspiration in the first place. I have had countless occassions where I have had to respond to aid another unit in lifting a patient, when most of the time, all it took was a little thinking to get out of a tight spot. The other instances required brute strength, both of which, as Dick has mentioned, female's lack.
I now work offshore, for a few reasons.
-One, I was tired of the penis-chopping theory most of the ER nurses had (yes, they are women). Bitches, I mean, female nurses, that look down on a man dripping in sweat because he just pulled someone out of a car that looks more like a crushed coke can on a hot Texas day while their fat asses have been sitting in the air conditioning of an ER should be deported to a third world country where they can learn all about how much better they have it in America than anywhere else.
-Two, the money is better, and working off the coast of Saudi Arabia means I don't have to work around women. Guess what? With no women over here, we actually get shit done. Throw a woman in the mix, and all that color coding of equipment that happens for a real reason like safety would turn into a fashion makeover for the mechanically declined population of the world...women.

Preach on Dick.

agreed.... I'm in the Army, and I say female medics are the absolute best. They're many times better at their job than the men, to begin with... and oh my gods, they make the absolute best girlfriends.

Having been in the military, and having been injured in the line of duty, I can tell you that a female Corpsman (medic) is preferable. A calm female voice in your ear telling you you'll be fine when your spine is twisted into a pretzel and your arm is bent in the wrong direction goes a long way to help you stop panicking.

You happen to be the one who spelled Gray's Anatomy wrong. Gray's Anatomy is a textbook. Grey's Anatomy is a soap opera. Also, that comma should have been a semi-colon. You comment was a run-on sentence. Checking your facts and using correct punctuation isn't hard; you should try it!

When I completed my EMT training in 2000, I had aspirations of advancing to paramedic like my mother had. However, decided on nursing after the realization that I didn't have the strength involved to be an effective paramedic. I am very capable of recognizing my own strengths and weaknesses. Not to mention the fact that I'd make significantly more money as a nurse. In California, EMT's make $14/hr. Paramedics make $25/hr. I make $42/hr as a hospital nurse and $65/hr when I do consulting work for law firms.
I'm a damn good ER nurse and have worked emergency medicine for over 8 years. I'm smart and always on my game. I've been recognized on more than one occasion for my excellent critical thinking skills and have saved a physician or two by pointing out important things they miss (ask them, they'll admit it). I am not a feminist and have never professed to superiority simply because I have the ovaries. I do however work with 5 absolutely stellar female paramedics. They are physically built different than I. They are stocky, yet feminine, and strong as a tractor. They are hard workers who have succeeded in a male dominated industry. Their male co-workers hold them in high esteem because they have stepped up to and passed the bar. So apparently you just haven't met the right women medics, but I'm sure you can admit that no all male medics are infallable simply because they are men. I've met some real minimalists out there that I wouldn't let transport my dog.

For the record, I agree (although I doubt anyone here cares) that when it's your turn to face the "light," so to speak, you won't care what I look like or how strong I am. You'll care that I'm quick on my feet, that I can anticipate what needs are next, and that I perform life-saving measures with stealth accuracy. That's what makes me a great nurse, not the fact that I'm a woman, the fact that I have an extremely high work ethic and a track record that proves it.

This right there might as well count as the quote for the entire article.

I've been an EMT for a few years, and I don't care what robot you trained on. I don't remember the name of mine because afterwards I was wrist deep in some gangbangers chest in the ER. Also if you are intelligent as you affirm, it is not "and bite by many people." (Grammar counts). When I was laying semiconscious in a pool of my own blood, and 3 female medics continuously dropped me on the way to the evac chopper I was just thinking about how it takes but 1 infantryman to move me 100 meters pretty quickly. I weigh about 220 with my armor and all of my gear, the aidbag is another 65. They can't keep up with me on a 12 mile road march, none the less carrying a casualty. I literally heard "Ewww, his blood is all over me".
