When I was younger I worked as a bench locksmith at my father’s company and my aunt complained that I was receiving equal pay despite being younger than his other employers… my dad laughed at her and pointed out that I had made 100 padlocks that day… roughly the same amount as every other employee. Equal wage should be about equal work and yet female executives get paid £10,000 less per year than their male counterparts.

Don’t think women aren’t changing this though… younger female employees are starting to get paid more than male counterparts as studies have proven that women are more efficient in the workplace and are therefore more valuable. According to the stats, women achieve better exam results, are more likely to persue higher education… and yet you still believe men are superior?!

I personally am under the impression that gender doesn’t play that big a part in productivity or value but I’m glad that women are pushing themselves harder to prove their value in a society where women are being burned alive in India for their family not providing a large enough dowry. Or where female babies are left tied to cots to die in China as girls are not seen as worthy enough. Or where women are stoned to death for accidently showing a part of their wrist in Sudan. Or where aid workers are sexually abusing little girls under their protection in Pakistan. Or where rape is a common occurence worldwide and in the US 99% of rapes are commited by men.

We have to first quantify/define, what is considered as equal work.

Unless a fixed amount of work(same type) is allocated by your supervisor, that is to be done mechanically by the concerned person in a defined time frame & that happens to be set, similarly for all the persons in that particular group(performing same type of work), working in that particular company/organization,which as such should be the ideal case………

but in reality, its hard to quantify, what amount of work, should be considered as equal work.Besides it is also difficult to categorize, which work should be considered easy & which should be considered difficult.

In fact, companies thrive/make profit by taking more work out of talented individuals & paying less to them. The amount of work, which a person can churn out in a given time frame, varies from individual to individual & depends on the productive capacity/efficiency of that individual.

No two individuals can have the same productive capacity or efficiency at work place. The quality & quantity of work, depends to a considerable extent on an individual’s/person’s ingenuity,improvisation & innovative skills at work place.Also the highly valuable trouble shooting skills which comes only through decades of experience are invaluable addition to an
individual’s portfolio.

These skill sets are NOT taught at grade schools/colleges & depends on individual’s talent & innate/intrinsic capability/capacity.

Thus implementation of equal pay for equal work de motivates/discourages
& in a way punishes the better performing individuals & rewards the poorly performing members of the group making them complacent & lazy.

It serves as a disincentive for the top performing individuals & rewards the incompetent & the incapable one’s.
