I recently had the misfortune of speaking with a highly ranking NOW member. At least that’s what she said. She couldn’t, however, explain to me exactly how one could rank highly in an organization like NOW. It’s like being a captain of the Swedish Submarine Brigade or the CEO of Armpit Fart Noises Inc. Seriously, what the fuck?
I raised several valid points about women being catastrophes and hazards to have in any level of government or under employ in any position where showcasing their sexuality was not the main job skill. I’m not talking about just prostitutes either. There are plenty of jobs where women exploit their sexuality: sales ladies, bar ladies, school teachers.
Why the fuck else would so many women teach? Because it’s easy?
Needless to say, I got the brush off. After all my salient and well put together points, I was called a derelict of this and that generation — the Stepford card was played, and I was summarily brushed aside.
Women can’t fight for causes for shit.
Men are natural born diplomats and politicians. We’re leaders and figureheads. It doesn’t matter what the cause is, if you put a man in charge of it, it’ll win. And ten years later everyone will look back and say, “Jesus, I can’t believe we ever thought any other way.” If a woman’s in charge of it, ten years later everyone will be saying, “Shit. We might have fucked that up.”

A man’s body may be superior for every day tasks that require strength, but it is obviously useless for bearing children, which is what a woman’s shape is built for. Our “warped” hips and “fat sacks” serve a purpose as important as men’s muscles. And, by the way, Doubt actually does say there is something inherently wrong with and unnatural about women’s bodies.

I happen to be very strong for a woman. I build muscle almost instantly. It’s genetic. But as strong as I am, I doubt I could win an arm-wrestling match against a man of average strength. That’s just the way it is. Accept it and move on.

@ Doubt- Yep, people should be viewed as individuals and neither gender should have be given a false advantage. But “don’t try to intimidate your physical superiors”? Women shouldn’t have to live in fear of men any more than a smaller man should fear a larger one. People should be able to say basically whatever they want regardless of their size without fear of physical retribution. As for physical intimidation, the weak attacking the strong is extremely unfair (since the strong is then forced to either violate their principles by attacking someone weaker than them, or just accepting the abuse), and the strong should respect the weak’s rights and not resort to violence without very good cause.
Also, enough with attacking the female body. Breasts are not “fat sacks” and our hips aren’t “warped”. Male and female bodies are suited for different purposes and are therefore built differently, but one isn’t superior to the other. And breasts, by the way, unless they are VERY large, do not cause back pain or prevent women from playing sports or hiking.

I have no issue with equality of opportunity. I have a very considerable issue with equality of outcome. Moreover, if we are strict on equal rights, that means men should have the same right as women to have children. Since this is biologically currently impossible, shall we implement Margaret Atwood-style Handmaids (say women convicted of crimes) who bear children for men (and other women) according to court order? That would certainly be one interpretation of “equal rights”.
And as Özgür said, in the event, however unlikely, you do a job as well as a man, you will be paid as well as one.
I will give you a hint, though: most jobs suitable for women in the modern economy require the ability to communicate using correct spelling and grammar.

This brings us to women quotas. But why not also gay cuotas? Where’s the end to this? Miners, firemen, police officers, artists, mental health workers, farmers, tinkers, tailors, soldiers, spies, business executives, security experts, security guards, diplomats, waiters, playwrights, sailors, pilots, authors, physicians, landscapers, lawyers, engineers, truck drivers, professors, teachers, secretaries, jockeys, musicians, mathematicians, physicists, scientists of all sorts, architects… that would be a somewhat more diverse and cosmopolitan group. Still incomplete, and somewhat biased to the middle class, but not bad.
With the exception of jockey and miner, I can count at the very least a friendly acquaintance of every type of person on the list (if you count intelligence analyst — a deadly dull job — as “spy”), and, as I’m hardly the life and soul of any party, I know many people who do far better than I. Your list of three narrow categories of people is rather sad. You should get out more. Meet different kinds of people. Expand your horizons beyond the bars.

I’ve seen one episode of the US Office and I wasn’t surprisingly, cringing in my seat at how inapt the take-off was. though I do admit, they did try their best. I see the lead actor won the Golden Globe last night, so maybe it does improve after 4 – 5 episodes. I still couldn’t watch it, would just feel…dirty.

I agree one of the many things that attracts me to this website is Dicks masterful ability to cut through the bullshit. I think that Dick uses words and this ability to inspire thought provoking pieces of work. Regardless of whether or not you agree with them, a lot of them make me think and laugh at the same time. My husband ordered that film through Netflix and we were both surprised at how funny it was. It is a spoof of horror movies and quite entertaining, if you can tolerate the vulgarity.

Actually I can’t stand The Bridges of where bloody ever, didn’t a man write that movie? My god, I think it might have been that manly man Clint Eastwood. Steel Magnolias was quite good but I wouldnt want to see it more than twice in a lifetime. Walking past the home cinema area, I’ve just caught a bit of Club Dread, Pacman hedge maze scene is hysterical!! Recommended A+
