Actually, zero point energy will never be practical. According to the latest equations, the amount of energy present in the vacuum is actually very small. Of course, free energy, perhaps with the sole exception of immortality and solving the incompatibilities between general relativity and quantum mechanics, is the ultimate goal of science. Everyone wants to get “something for nothing”, but unfortunately the laws of thermodynamics have different plans. As for fusion, the energy necessary to start the fusion reaction is enormous in itself, making it not very economical, and then there’s the problem os stopping a 50 million Cº ball of fire from melting the reactors and everything in a 25 mile radius.

Yes, I’m American. We don’t have legal drugs besides alcohol/tobacco/caffeine but we’ve become quite a permissive society anyway. When I was a kid I used to smoke pot, and time and again my “pothead friends” would fail me when I needed them… now they’re all on crack, in jail, or the military. Moral of the story? Get new friends who aren’t addicted to passifying drugs or keep getting your ass kicked every time you go out. I’d say get a gun but I’m guessing the Netherlands prefers only criminals have them like the rest of Europe. Or is the Netherlands the country where there’s an armed militia trained with AK47s?

It’s easy for countries like yours to depend on wind/thermal/etc energy due to the small size of your nations and the huge taxes incurred on you for investments into such systems. In huge places like US, it’s pointless. Especially where profits matter most.

as i said,i now live in the nederlands.here they have made the most of the flatness of the land and are using a lot of wind turbines to create electricty.also,as the land is mostly under sea level,they are doing a lot with water too.
granted that this only supplies a small part of the total needed,and these things are quite expensive to maintain.but it’s a step.saying it’s pointless is quitting.it’s not just about how we gain our energy either,at the moment.it’s about how we use it,or how we try to conserve it.that’s what i meant with the remark on my last post.EVERYONE has to take it seriously and use energy in a conscienscous manner.don’t expect the others to solve the problem.

As far taking alternative energy seriously, it’s irrelavant for most things. The only cost effective way of extracting hydrogen is from fossil fuels and the existing Big Oil infrastructure, except it would be more expensive than regular gas, aint happening period.

Then you have wind power, yet here in the US demogogue hypocrite liberals from New England don’t want it because it would block the views and drop the property value on their houses in their gated white enclaves. Yet they hate those conservatives and their evil oil industry so much.. riiiiiiight.

son of the suns: i agree.go to where i come from in england.most english people have lost the idea of sticking together and “keepin ya mates back”.the pakistanis haven’t though.a few years back,whilest in my home town.i got in to a fight with some moroccan twat.i really tried not to fight him as i was having a lovely night,i’d dropped an e and didn’t wish to spoil the buzz.in the end i had no choice as he caught me a nice nut on the nose.apparently he was coked up and thought he was kingkong that night,he weren’t that big.i guess he fought that would drop me and didn’t expect much in the way of a reaction.i only punched him once,and he was lying bleeding on the floor.it felt like a light punch,but apparently i knocked a tooth out and he had to have a bunch of stitches.
anyway.i walk home with me my sister,my nose still bleeding,and am waiting out side for my mates to arrive back from town in a taxi.just after they arrive and everyone is heading to the house,two car loads of paki’s turn up to find me.i did the sensible thing and scarpered.i was kind of unlucky in that my button on my trousers fell off as i jumped a fence.trying to run when your pants are falling down just don’t work,ever seen a sack race?they caught up with me and i got the worst kickin of my life so far.broken nose,bruised ribs,eye whites filled with blood,fucked hands from stamping,that kind of thing.i tried to put up a fight,but what can you do against five people if you aint bruce lee.at least i didn’t let them keep me down.i was still stood at the end,trousers round my ankles and minus a very ripped t-shirt.hence my disappointment in a complete multi cultural society.
the interesting thing is though.there were a few friends who saw the start of the chase and just went inside the house.only one came out and tried to help.he was only a tiny little guy and there wasn’t much he could do.at least he tried though,all the rest let me down big time.the people you would expect to help you in a situation like that.the people who would expect you to be there if it was them.the people you don’t expect to be such pussy cowards.and there is my disappointment in western male society.

i do believe that new renewable energy sources will be taken very seriously soon.the western world doesn’t want to be at the mercy of the arabic world for ever,and if we are to survive as a race/races,then it must be becoming fairly evident that we must make a move from fossil fuels to a cleaner,and eventually,a much cheaper energy source.undoubtedly to be discovered/invented,by a MAN.
