I’ve often noticed that people will hold the door for whoever is most laden with things or responsibilities preventing them from opening it, whether it’s a man getting a door for a woman carrying her groceries, or a woman getting the door for a man who has to keep track of a couple of toddlers. The reason women don’t stop to help men with broken down cars is because too many bad men have used this situation to hurt women. If every non-criminal citizen could carry a gun, this wouldn’t be such a problem. If the woman who escaped Ted Bundy alive would have been packing, he never would have even made it to jail just to escape his captors.
