One in Three Women is Illiterate
Sometimes the statement men are better than women leaves me wanting a little more in the flavor of substance. It’s not often. Like all men, the shortcomings of women are something I’ve learned to accept and move on. However, occasionally we men need to re-evaluate. We need more than rational hypothesizing and logical conjecture. We need facts for the why’s and how’s.
I pose this as a formal theory. Men are better than women at everything because something like 30% of women are illiterate.
Sounds shocking doesn’t it? But really, when do women need to read? Numbers don’t count as reading, so illiteracy does not impede women from writing checks or measuring all the progress they’re not making while they’re not working out at the gym.
Before I get too ahead of myself let me quote some statistics. UNICEF and UNESCO say that two out of every three illiterates is a woman. They give the world-wide feminine literacy rate in the sixtieth percentile, while the male literacy rate towers above that number at nearly 90%. I think you’ll agree that that’s plenty of numerical majesty to spare.
Initially, when I saw the figures I thought to myself, maybe that’s why women are so shitty at everything. Just like the kid who is really shitty at baseball and then it turns out he just needed some glasses. Maybe women just need to learn how to read.
Then I realized the writing on the walls of every cluster fuck women are about to step into is only metaphorical writing. They also don’t need to be able to read to shut the hell up every once in a while and listen when something other than Oprah or an appliance that resembles Oprah is dispensing sound life advice.
Perhaps instead of Easy Bake Ovens and Barbie Dolls this Christmas, mothers should be buying their daughters Hooked on Phonics.

Hating rich people? Then you must, as Billy suggested, really loathe Democrats, as they tend to be the richest of the rich. Check out the Kennedy family, John Forbes Kerry or George Soros for that matter.
In general, hatred doesn’t strengthen you. It makes you hard and brittle to the core, all too easily shattered. Perhaps there are some who’s souls can feed upon hate effectively, but in general they tend to be pretty horrible people.

Given your blaming Bush for your job situation, followed by Billy’s point — that there are jobs available, and your counter that you’re depressed and won’t submit to a urine test… if you blame Bush for your mental state then you really, really need help urgently.
Some psychiatrists have mused about the possibility of “Bush Derangement Syndrome” given the eccentric behavior of some apparent sufferers.
As for drug tests, you do know those were passed by a Democratic Congress, right? I suppose they could be Bush’s fault if he had access to a time machine and powerful mind control, but…
In any event, hopefully you can get better. As Billy says, there are some good jobs available for people with your skillset.

I grew up with of great deal of depression and have learned to overcome it. I would gladly share what I’ve learned if your interested.

I am a computer geek, I am a certifed technician (who delivers pizza of course - thanks Bush) who loves computers. I grew up around them during their advent in the 70’s and 80’s. It was a wonderful time of miracle discoveries to me. I have a near genius IQ, no BS - I learned assembler, COBOL, BASIC, you name it.
If you read the story of Bill Gates / Jobs/Wozniak it is just amazing the wonderful genius of this MAN (imagine that). Bill Gates not only forsaw the future of computers, he was cunning enough to hijack DOS and make a goddamn fortune like the world has never seen. Kudos to the man.

Yes, you know what I mean - not mainstream religions or denominations. What I mean is, since I guess after WWII, we’ve been trying to build up lots of these places all over the world, but then some crazy movement or individual seizes control of the area, then we’re stuck dealing with it and playing games back and forth in secret.
To me, makes much more sense to just look for the countries with weakest governments - like Mexico - and we just “move in” - just like immigrants move into America - we send lots of our people and businesses down there to live like we just want to immigrate or whatever. Then we bring all of our ideas and we pretend to “work” with them, then eventually our ideas become the majority and westernism controls the place - no war, no blood.. perhaps some political conflicts along the way.. but eventually our people/ideas would take control of those systems

I always joke that one day soon Americans will be heading southward, and will be waving to Mexicans coming into the US.
If capitalism ever took hold down there, and they got a strong enough democratic government going - that place would be built up in no time and would be beautiful - all it would take is brains, investors and money - and western businesses have all of that. A few big companies could turn a place like Mexico around, Americans could move down south and buy up cheap land, build it up - it would be beautiful. The climate and geography of central and south america is amazing, the women are hot, it’s like a tropical paradise down there. If the fundamentals of western civilization were put in place it would be amazing - like a south american version of the US. Don’t be surprised, westerners are already moving to places like China, India, Japan, South Korea etc with their companies who are providing housing and good pay.
As I always like to say - instead of immigrants coming to America, we can simply bring America to them.
Borders no longer matter that much, imho, markets are what is really going to matter in the future - one world market - fluidity of money and people would make the world a much stronger, peaceful, more western place. I guess I’m just a neocon in that way, but prefer using capitalism to spread westernism instead of using military force. It’s just much cheaper and more effective, imo. Open up all of these third world dumps to modern western markets, and ideas, money and people will flow in and build it up. In my opinion, as much as I dislike the Democrats, it is a good thing they got power this time. This nation needs more people in the next generation, and we either take Mexicans or Muslims. It’s gonna’ get worse. A few years ago, a buddy discovered his 8 year old girl couldn’t read. He started asking questions, and discovered she had no idea letters meant sounds, and by learning those letter/sounds they could figure out words they didn’t know already.
He talked to the stupid female teacher who informed him phonics was obsolete.
He had heard no complaints about his son, so he asked the boy if he knew letters had sounds. The boy told him, yes, he knew that. He asked if they showed him at school. The kid told him, no, the boys had talked at recess and figured it out so they taught each other what the sounds were. FRIGGIN’ SIX YEAR OLD BOYS TAUGHT EACH OTHER TO READ!
I asked my son, the one who is in med school if he was taught the sounds of lettters. He told me, no, he thinks he probably figured it out for himself when he was 4 or 5 years old.

Wolfe, I am not a neo-isolationist yet. I’m still onboard with the Bush doctrine so far. But we know the Clinton appeasement/policing strategy doesn’t work because 9/11 happened, the Bush doctrine of smashed failed states and rebuilding them in our image is something that hasn’t been tried before, so it was worth it. If it fails, what remains besides isolationism or turning into a police state like Israel or the UK. Should we be recorded by cameras every time we leave the house?

Pretty good, actually, and I suspect the same is true of SotS’ ancestors. US immigration continues to be quite high. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is not well run, nor is it well staffed, but that’s endemic to any government department.
Unless the minimum wage is set arbitrarily high, or you have a heavy-duty welfare state, there is no such thing. Consider, for example the shift in (I’ll pick a European country) who’s sweeping the streets of Paris. Not African immigrants anymore but native French.

I hope also your nation will be able to contribute in the same way and degree that the US Navy and Australia were able to contribute immediately to the relief of suffering after the Asian Tsunami. Contributions such as stale bread that some European countries infamously made were not as helpful as a nuclear-powered carrier generating tens of thousands of gallons of fresh water a day for people to drink, a flotilla of hospital ships available within 48 hours, a veritable air force of helicopters available for SAR, etc.

Not feasible via brute force/money. Evil governments and warlords will manipulate food supplies to their own ends — consciously or unconsciously. Unless you wish the US to have a hundred Iraqs (and we’ll pass on that too), simply giving food bankrupts local farmers; giving money ’sticks’ to kleptocratic locals. Not an easy problem to solve.
Witness Somalia — the US had a relatively simple mission: stop people from starving. Turned out the Warlords were quite happy to attack aid providers and US marines.
It wouldn’t be very good. Completely free medical treatment results in horrible queues and all kinds of problems. Compare the US and Canadian systems for some eye-opening. That said, I think we could do much better as a country in portability of care, basic care, and catastrophic care for all.
No point unless it’s a near break-even situation. Grandiose mega-projects that will turn huge losses just don’t make rational sense.
We did that in the US and (via the US Army Corps of Engineers) in Cuba, and, with the help of the Swiss had a pretty good go at it globally with DDT. Europeans, being irrational and poorly scientifically educated (as a collective group), seem to have some insane bee in their bonnet and impose all sorts of brutal sanctions on regimes that want to use DDT for mosquito/malarial control. I guess it makes the Euro’s happy, but it has a pretty brutal cost on the third world. The science is pretty clear; Silent Spring (a book by a crazy US woman) is junk.

Many of these are problems that are not capable of trivial solution, much though it might comfort you to think otherwise. The world is a rather more complex place than it appears from cozy Europe.
