Females may be better at integrating information from all over their brains; they may be able to make connections between ideas more readily than males. When the study you cited discusses the less "distinct" verbal and spatial functioning in females, it means that women are able to connect these areas more easily. Women do, in fact, have more active & larger "verbal" areas. You attribute this to a greater need to talk and to poor listening skills. Yes, females have larger Broca's areas (verbal), but they also have larger Wernicke's areas--yes, the "listening" area. I often see discussion here about supposedly superior male mathematical ability, so I would like to point out that cross-cultural studies and more recent examinations of mathematical intelligence have found that gender differences in mathematical ability are not existent in all countries and that the gap in the States is either lessening or insignificant.
