I am laughing out loud. You must know how to be a mother than and what it takes to do what a mother does than?

I don’t know much about nurses and bank tellers. So sue me. I do know, however, that they are considered jobs. Jobs are created because we need them, therefore they have purpose. So if we were to think about these two points logically, we could conclude that nurses and bank tellers have a purpose. That’s right. Nurses and bank tellers have meaning in our society, whether you think they do or not. Nurses and bank tellers have responsibility, they have importance. These jobs were created to fulfil a role that our society needed, and let me assure you, that role was not to lie around and generally be a bitch. There are certain skill sets needed for these jobs that not everybody has.

Anyway, nurses and bank tellers aside, the thing that really pisses me off about this post is your blatant disregard for teachers. They are not “overpaid babysitters”, nor are they “easy, cheap, and worthless”.

Now, I’ll admit: not all teachers are good. In fact, there are a hell of a lot of terrible teachers. However, the ones that are good –and there are more than you think– have the ability to handle things that would make a lot of us want to tear our hair out:

1.) Shitty parenting. There are so many parents that expect teachers to raise their children for them. Why? I have no idea. But the parents will blame the teacher for their child’s behavior problems.

2.) Disrespect. From society, and from the parents, the students, and the higher-ups.

3.) Poor salary. In the state where I used to live, a teacher living alone would probably consider food stamps as an option.

I could probably go on, but this comment is getting too long as it is. My point is this: teaching is not cheap, it is not easy, and it is not worthless. Teachers have a lot of power over childrens’ futures, and I’d say that that is a heck of a lot of responsibility. Essentially, one could say that teachers have a significant amount of power over the future of this country.

…And in case you were wondering, I’m not a teacher. I’m just a college student, and I’m not even considering education; I just understand that there are certain roles in this society that are invaluable, and teaching is most certainly one of them.

If any of you would like to reply, please speak (or type?) slowly, because remember, I’m a woman, and that means I don’t have two brain cells to rub together.

Meaning that a damn good doctor is a damn good doctor, regardless of gender.

And if you want to look at the history, the playing field was never very even was it? Of course all the ground breakers were men…women were busy raising those very ground breakers and tending to their husbands.

If you’re speaking in terms of hiring quotas, no doubt.

If you’re speaking in terms of statistical anomalies, no doubt.

But if you’re speaking in terms of which gender remains responsible for almost every revolutionary breakthrough, or even innovation to existing technologies and knowledge, then it ISN’T even close >>>

Male S.T.E.M. students and professionals are STILL, by far, the vast majority of our breakthrough achievers in these fields (that’s not an OPINION).

Hey – my dog managed to flip the station from the Twins’ game so I could catch the latest on the Vikings’ draft picks’ progress; but that’s NOT the norm for such an animal; and neither is “female doctors and female surgeons surpassing their male colleagues” in much of anything except chit chat (YES they do have time for that).

There are also male nurses who have surpassed their female colleagues.

We NEED nurses, and whoever says we don’t is an imbecile of the highest order.
