So the fact that a child is conceived and delivered during marriage automatically means the male is the father? I think you have to high and unrealistic opinion of your gender guest22. DNA paternity testing at birth for all children would be fair and give the male equality with his spouse, in the fact that he would then be as certain as any man can be the child is his. Imagine this, a woman has her child, the child is then taken to another room and put with nine others, none of which have name tags and the tenth (your child) also receives none. The next day you go into the room to feed your child and ask a nurse which one is yours. She says ‘take your pick’. Your response would be? I’ll hazard a guess, ‘ I want MY F*ing baby’. You of course would be correct, what ever your response, you have the right to your own child. You now have to trust the word of the nurse that she gives you the correct child, YOUR CHILD. Welcome to the world of men.

That wasn’t the point. The point was that women have contributed to society in positive manners. Not that some women are usually broke.

Now when it comes to paying the check, while I can’t speak for everyone, to me it’s just a gentlemanly thing to do (such as holding the door open). Personally, I make enough money to pay for it myself. If the guy offers, then sure. But I will always offer to pay at least part (such as desert, or the tip). Not because I want to take advantage of him, but because I, personally, think it’s polite. To quote an editorial:

To me, it’s tradition more than “I can’t pay”. I grew up in a pretty old-fashioned family, I guess.

That’s why I think reform is in order. It’s ridiculous that these men, who aren’t even remotely responsible for these children (and even those who are), have to pay SO MUCH. Granted, women who have custody do have to satisfy the emotional and nurturing needs of the child, but the father shouldn’t have to pay for much over half, if it is indeed their child!

I’m not belittling the work of men. Yes they’ve contributed A WHOLE LOT! I’m just saying that there are plenty of contributions by women too, while probably not nearly as much as men (but this could be caused by laws preventing proper credit and society frowning upon ‘women out of the kitchen’), female contributions do exist.

If you wish to read on, be my guest. Let’s face it; men and women are different (in more than the obvious ways). Like most animals, we have differing emotions and instincts from each other. For instance, the female instinct tells them to have children, while the male instinct tells them to spread their genes (while we don’t ‘think’ this way exactly, it’s what causes us to have sexual feelings). A man who grew up in a city won’t make the same choice as a woman who grew up in the country. In a nutshell, we think different.

That’s not to say that women can’t do great things, however. Grace Hopper was an amazing computer scientist: she programmed the first programs for the Harvard Mark I, she created the first programming language compiler, and helped advance the age of modern technology. Heck, she even won the first ‘man of the year’ award from DPMA! Harriet Tubman was a resourceful Union scout and led many people, men and women, to freedom. Helen Keller was a brilliant speaker, despite being both deaf and blind (not to mention her teacher, Anne Sullivan, who developed a way for highly disabled children to learn). There was Marie Curie, a physicist and the first person to ever be awarded two Nobel Prizes. Then we have Amelia Earhart, the first to fly the Atlantic twice and fly solo to many places. Not mention authors like JK Rowling and Jane Austin.

Can you honestly say society would be as advanced today if it weren’t for the contributions of both male and females? You could say “Oh, but men would have done that anyway.” But, you know what? We’ll never know for sure, because like it or not, there has been and always will be women on this planet.

I think saying ‘all women are cheaters’ (milder term used) is a very gross generalization. It’s like saying ‘all blacks are uneducated’ or ‘all atheists are evil’; it’s simply not true. I’m not saying that there aren’t any ‘cheating’ women, ’stupid’ women, or ‘lazy’ women; I’m just saying you should group them as one. For instance, my mother is a hard-worker (she’s a professor) and is responsible for doing the bills. While my father is also a hard worker (a manager in a government position) and makes more money, budgeting is not his high point (my mother came out of college with little dept [she went to a medical school originally] without help of parents or scholarships, my father came out with more with parent assistance. Once again, this does not mean that all men are frivolous with money, just like it doesn’t mean that all women are cheaters.

When it comes to feminism, however, I do think too much is too much. I’m not saying women should have rights taken away, but I think men should have rights added. For instance, it used to be the husband would have custody over the children in a divorce case, but now, because of the Women’s Rights Movements, the wife is probably 99% more likely to gain custody. In my opinion, this isn’t fair. Men should be just as eligible as women (if they are able-bodied/minded); there is nothing that says men can’t be ‘nurturing’ or a ‘good parent’. I know children who are put in the hands of women who neglect them, while the fathers could be perfectly eligible. I also don’t like how women usually don’t have to pay as much child support; I think child support should be based off of the money the couples would have made together, and each pay based on their salaries (that way they both keep, say, 60% of their money to themselves).

All in all, I don’t feel like it’s fair to say ‘men are better than women’, ‘women are better than men’ or perhaps even ‘men and women are equal’. We’re different. If someone goes to the doctor with the flu and another goes to the doctor with strep, are they going to get the same medicine? No. But, they will but have their needs met. That’s what feminism and men’s rights acts should be focusing on; getting the needs of both men and women satisfied. A man should have just as much right to custody (if eligible) and a woman should have just as much pay as a man (if she is just as good in that same profession).
